Move around the floor in a Loco-motion
(Come on baby, do the Loco-motion)
Do it holding hands if you get the notion
(Come on baby, do the Loco-motion)There’s never been a dance that’s so easy to do
It even makes you happy when you’re feeling blue
So come on, come on, do the Loco-motion with me.— The Ventures, written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King
I confess to loving the Loco-motion back in the day. I would watch American Bandstand and take tips as I polished my moves on the living room carpet. Skinny tie, flat front pants, long pointy shoes. Straightened hair. (Yes, I had a natural Jew-fro that was tamed most of the time in adolescence.)
What is the tune that plays today to that new dance craze, The Avoid-dance? You know the one? Where we look past each other, text, do a Netflix binge? Well, at least I still have the ties, pants, and shoes.
The hair? Not so much.
